A colourful life – Chrisp Street Market
I headed down to Chrisp Street Market in Poplar on Saturday for a bit of a lunchtime singalong outside Ivy’s cafe. I didn’t get a lot of photography done… or a lot of singing but I did do a lot of chatting. I spent most of the time chatting to photographer Tom Hurley who has an exhibition on at the market of photos taken at Ivy’s cafe. Get down there if you can: it is well worth a visit.
I did eventually get some photography done!
My plan had been to do some street photography and explore the area and photograph ‘Oi oi Saveloy’ – a singalong with a piano which was part of the Cockney Heritage Festival.
I didn’t get any good photos of the pianist or the singalong or the pearly kings and queens who were walking through the market but I did get this shot of a pearly queen walking into a pie and mash shop! At one time this would have been a cockney cliche but it is something of a rare sight these days.
