Night life – Soho Windows #2
I’ve been peering through windows again – this time in Old Compton Street in Soho. It is an interesting street with some old fashioned shops like the Algerian Coffee Shop above and the Camisa Italian deli, coffee shops, patisseries, offices of media companies and gay clubs and bars.
At about 5pm on a Friday night it is beginning to get busy – which means clicking the shutter at just the right moment so that you don’t get people and cars you don’t want in your shot – but not so busy that you can’t see the shop fronts for people. The only problem I had while trying to get shots of the Algerian Coffee Shop was that the window attracted a lot of browsers, so getting a photo without people in was impossible.
I was waiting around for this man above to move on so that I could take a shot without people when I noticed the woman in the room above.

Reblogged this on filmcamera999.
Thanks!
Another nice set of window shots. Those windows are full of interesting things to look at. I particularly like images of people working on the inside, like your butcher image here.
It’s interesting how whenever we capture pictures of people in bars, cafes etc.. they are nearly always tapping away on a smart phone. It’s almost as if people can not relax without the need to stroke a small device screen. Proof that in a few decades, all people will just become permanently logged into the web, and leave reality behind as a mere hinderence.. ( “but not I !” I say proudly, while clinging onto my latest paperback novel. ) hehehe
And I’m one of those who is always tapping away on a smart phone when I stop off for a cup of coffee or cup of tea! It’s a chance to catch up with emails, tweets, Facebook, texts… the list is endless. I save the novels for travelling on public transport. And I do a lot of that.
I even tap away when I’m on my stall at Portobello Road Market.
Agree with Bill, the butcher immediately stands out to me. Also a decade or so ago, people in these scenes would be puffing away at cigarettes – we seem to need something to keep our hands busy in these situations.
Yes. Now you have to stand out in the cold and rain if you want to have a cigarette!
